剛到公司的Catherine做的不是很順利 不時的出些小錯誤 偏偏她的頂頭上司又是個要求嚴(yán)格的人 因此Catherine時常挨罵  這天她又被上司批評了 心情很不好 同事看見了 對她說 follow the rules and you won't get chewed out ，Catherine心想 難道是指公司里競爭很激烈 自己不守規(guī)矩就會被“吞食掉”嗎  為了確認(rèn)她的想法 她問了問同事

Jack：Follow the rules and you won't get chewed out
Jack:遵守規(guī)定你就不會挨罵

Catherine：That sounds really horrible. Does it mean that the comeptition is really fierce here,That if I don't follow the rules I will be "chewed"?
Catherine:聽起來真可怕 這是不是指這里的競爭很激烈啊  如果我不守規(guī)矩就會被吞食掉嗎？

Jack: No .It means you will not be scolded if you follow the rules.
Jack:不 這句話的意思好似如果你遵守規(guī)定就不會被責(zé)罵

Catherine: Oh i see  .Thank you
Catherine: 我明白了 謝謝啦

follow the rules and you won't get chewed out 遵守規(guī)定你就不會挨罵

chew是咀嚼的意思   但是chew someone out 卻和這個單詞本身沒多大聯(lián)系 是“責(zé)罵某人”的意思
