Ship, ahoy! Hast seen the White Whale?

船呀！可看到白鯨么？

So cried Ahab, once more hailing a ship showing English colors, bearing down under the stern. Trumpet to mouth, the old man was standing in his hoisted quarter-boat, his ivory leg plainly revealed to the stranger captain, who was carelessly reclining in his own boat's bow. He was a darkly-tanned, burly, goodnatured, fine-looking man, of sixty or thereabouts, dressed in a spacious roundabout, that hung round him in festoons of blue pilot-cloth; and one empty arm of this jacket streamed behind him like the broidered arm of a huzzar's surcoat.

亞哈又看到后邊有一艘掛英國(guó)旗的船，就這樣喊道。這老頭兒，號(hào)筒湊在嘴邊，站在他那吊在后甲板的小艇上，他那只牙腿已經(jīng)讓那個(gè)陌生船長(zhǎng)看得一清二楚了，那船長(zhǎng)正漫不經(jīng)心地倚在他自己的小艇頭。他皮膚黝黑，身體結(jié)實(shí)，面容和藹，相貌端正，六十左右的年紀(jì)，穿著件寬大的短上衣，好象圍著一條飾有流蘇的藍(lán)粗呢氈子；他那外套的一只空洞洞的袖筒，象中世紀(jì)武士鎧甲上的長(zhǎng)衣的一只繡花的臂筒，在他后邊隨風(fēng)飄展。

可看到白鯨么？

See you this? and withdrawing it from the folds that had hidden it, he held up a white arm of sperm whale bone, terminating in a wooden head like a mallet.

你看見(jiàn)這東西嗎？他把藏在圍布底下的手臂拉出來(lái)，把那只用抹香鯨骨做的白手臂高高舉起，這只手臂的末端鑲有一段木錘似的木頭。

Man my boat! cried Ahab, impetuously, and tossing about the oars near him—"Stand by to lower!"

準(zhǔn)備我的小艇！亞哈一邊急躁地叫道，一邊翻動(dòng)著身旁的木槳——"準(zhǔn)備下水！"

In less than a minute, without quitting his little craft, he and his crew were dropped to the water, and were soon alongside of the stranger.

不到一分鐘工夫，他連人帶小艇以及他的水手都給放下海里，不一會(huì)，便靠攏了那艘陌生船。
