要知道,收音機(jī)是偉大的發(fā)明。
Here I am! Flying high abovethe earth, but my voiceis coming across just as if I were sitting in front ofyou.
現(xiàn)在,我在演播廳,可是,我的聲音讓你覺得我就在你面前。
Communicating by voice alone has its drawbacks, though.
但是,光憑聲音溝通是有缺點(diǎn)的。
For example, I can't use hand gestures to clarifywhat I mean.
比如,我現(xiàn)在無法用手勢來表達(dá)自己。
And, as it turns out, that makes a big difference.
這說明手勢對溝通很重要。
Researchers at the University of Otago in New Zealand wanted to know how much a relevanthand gesture helps to communicate an idea.
新西蘭奧塔拉大學(xué)的研究,想知道相關(guān)的手勢對表達(dá)想法有多少幫助。
They had volunteers watch video clips of a woman saying different simple phrases, such as “thesquare box,” or “peel the banana.”
志愿者被要求觀看視頻短片,短片中有個女人在說各種簡單短語,比如,“方盒子”、“剝香蕉”。
In some, she simply said the phrase without moving her hands.
第一組志愿觀看的視頻中,她只是說出來,而不做任何手勢。
Peel the banana. In others, shemade the kind of hand gesture most of us would make whensaying that-a sort of banana-peeling mime that matches the content of the phrase.
但是,第二組志愿觀看的視頻中,她模仿默劇,做剝香蕉手勢。
In a third group, she made gestures with her hands that were unrelated to what she wassaying.
在第三組志愿觀看的視頻中,她做了一些和剝香蕉毫不相干的手勢。
The results?
結(jié)果是什么呢?
People who got the matching content hand gestures remembered those phrasesmoreeffectively than folks who got just the words alone.
第二組志愿者比第一組記得更好;而第一組比第三組記得更好!
What does this show us?
這說明什么呢?
We already knew that all the hand-waving we do when we speak isn'tjust nervous energy; itserves various functions.
我們在說話時所做的手勢,除了情緒表達(dá)還有更多其它用處。
Apparently, one of them is to help the listener remember what you've said.
很顯然,手勢有助于聽者記憶。
