The president of a local branch of the Japan Highway Public Corporation hanged himself on Monday in the third suicide in a week by a public official under investigation for suspected corruption.

Sasaki had scheduled to be questioned by prosecutors investigating alleged corruption at semi-government highway authority, Kyoto news agency said.

He was the second official of the highway corporation to kill himself since Tokyo prosecutor arrested the agency's director for allegedly taking bribes from top brokerage Nomura Securities Co.Ltd.
