Scene 1
場(chǎng)景1
William Thacker: Uh. would you like a cup of tea before you go?
Anna Scott: No.
William Thacker: Coffee?
Anna Scott: No.
William Thacker: Orange juice? Probably not. Um, something else cold. Uh -(Bottle Rattling) (He opens the door of the refrigerator.) Coke? Water? Some disgusting sugary drink pretending to have something to do with fruits of the forest?
Anna Scott: No.
William Thacker: Would you like something to eat? Uh. something to nibble? Um, apricots. soaked. in honey? Quite why, no one knows, because it stops them tasting of apricots... and makes them taste like honey, and if you wanted honey, you'd just buy honey instead of... apricots. Um. but nevertheless, there we go there. They're yours if you want them.
Anna Scott: No.
William Thacker: Do you always say "no" to everything?
Anna Scott: No. I'd better be going. Thanks for your, uh, help.
William Thacker: You are welcome. And, uh, may I also say, um, heavenly... I'll just take my one chance to say it. After you've read that terrible book, you' re certainly not going to be coming back to the shop.
Anna Scott: Thank you.
William Thacker: Yeah. Well, my pleasure. So... it was nice to meet you. Surreal but, um. --but nice.
Theresha: It's pretty crowded in there.
Dodge: You want to take a walk?
Theresha: Ok.
Dodge: He won't tell you much. Man talks about as much as a fish. Anyway wasn't good right from the beginning. Her family thought that she would be the one to bust out of here and just shake the world. Garret was too-much like them. They thought, anyway, that he would be an anchor around her, keep her life small.
Theresha: How did she die?
Dodge: Pregnancy. just took the stuffing right out of her. Keeled over. at her parents' house and they kept her there. So Garret went over and kicked the door down. Carried her out. She was glad too. He took care of her the best he could for about a month, I guess. And then...Well, she just gave out. Now you know why Garret don't talk much. Because his old man never shuts up. Do we eat now?
Theresha: Yeah.
