Lesson 11 One good turn deserves another

課文內(nèi)容：

I was having dinner at a restaurant when HarrySteele came in. Harry worked in a lawyer's officeyears ago, but he is now working at a bank. He getsa good salary, but he always borrows money fromhis friends and never pays it back. Tony saw meand came and sat at the same table. He hasnever borrowed money from me. While he waseating, I asked him to lend me 2 pounds. To mysurprise, he gave me the money immediately.'I have never borrowed any money from you,'Harry said,'so now you can pay for my dinner!'

托尼看到我就走了過來，并且和我坐到了同一張桌子前。

語言點1 本句用兩個and連接了三個謂語動詞，避免重復(fù)和啰嗦，使句子更加清晰簡潔。

I followed and watched and tried to speak to her.我尾隨注視著她，并試圖和她說話。

語言點2 sat at the same table坐在同一張桌子旁：sit為不及物動詞，需后接一個介詞at再接賓語。

My boss is sitting in front of his desk.我的老板正坐在他的辦公桌前。

他從來沒有向我借過錢。

語言點 never常用于完成時中：This smart young lady had never been abroad before.這位漂亮年輕的女士以前從未出過國。

6.While he was eating, I asked him to lend me 2 pounds.

當(dāng)他用餐的時候，我向他提出借20英鎊。

語言點1 在此句中while表示當(dāng)……時。經(jīng)常與while發(fā)生混淆的詞是awhile，表示“片刻，少頃，暫時”。awhile作為副詞從不置于介詞之后，但介詞可放在兩個短語成的a while之前，尤其在書面表達中，正確用法為：stayawhile;stay for a while. stay for awhile是錯誤用法。
