Lesson 9 A cold welcome

課文內(nèi)容：

On Wednesday evening, we went to the TownHall. It was the last day of the year and a largecrowd of people had gathered under the TownHall clock. It would strike twelve in twentyminutes' time. Fifteen minutes passed and then, atfive to twelve, the clock stopped. The big minutehand did not move. We waited and waited, butnothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted, It'stwo minutes past twelve! The clock has stopped!' I looked at my watch. It was true. The bigclock refused to welcome the New Year. At that moment everybody began to laugh and sing.

本文語法：介詞與時間搭配

語法歸納：介詞on, in, at, by, until/till, during與時間搭配的正確用法：

on 多用于表示某天或節(jié)日等相對特定的時間前

in 多用在年、月、季度等一段時間前

at 多用在具體的點或短暫時間前

by 多用于表示“在……之前”、“直到……時候”

during 經(jīng)常表示在某一特定時間內(nèi)

until/till 意為“直到”

語言點 the Town Hall=the City Hall市政廳

hall意為“大廳，大堂;過道，走廊”：school hall禮堂;meeting hall會議廳;exhibition hall展覽廳;theGreat Hall of the People人民大會堂

2.It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had gathered underthe Town Hall clock.

這是一年的最后一天了，很多人都自發(fā)地聚集在市政廳的鐘下。

語言點 last的常用意義：

1)上一個：last year去年;last month上個月;last summer去年夏天

2)(=final)最后的：on the last/final day of summer vacaion在暑假的最后一天

3.It would strike twelve in twenty minutes' time.

再過20分鐘，大鐘將敲響12下。

語言點1 "in+一段時間"可表示“一段時間之內(nèi)”;也可用于表示“一段時間之后”，多用于將來時。

1)在……內(nèi)：The bird covered the distance in 3 minutes.這只鴿子只用了3分鐘就飛越了這段距離。

2)在……之后(多與將來時連用)：I will come back in 5 days.我將在5天后回來。

語言點2 would在此處表示過去將來時。
