On New Year's Day, people start a New Year. Many people make resolutions. They resolve to be better people. Some people decide that they will lose weight, so that they can be healthier. Some people decide to give up smoking. They also want to be healthier. 

元旦那天，人們開(kāi)始新的一年。許多人都會(huì)立下新年決心。他們決心要成為更好的人。有些人決定減肥，這樣他們才能更健康。有些人決定戒煙。他們也想變得更健康。

There are all kinds of resolutions that people make. Some people try not to lose their tempers. Some people say that they will work harder. There are people who try to give up bad habits every year. My brother says that he will stop biting his nails. He stops biting his nails in January, but by February he always starts again. 

人們會(huì)立下各種各樣的決心。有些人試圖不發(fā)脾氣。有些人說(shuō)他們會(huì)更加努力。有些人每年都試圖戒掉壞習(xí)慣。我哥哥說(shuō)他會(huì)停止咬指甲。他在一月份停止咬指甲，但到了二月份他總是會(huì)重新開(kāi)始。

That is the thing about New Year's resolutions. People seldom keep them. Everybody starts out with good intentions, but it is very hard to stick with them. I don't make New Year's resolutions. I find that I just break them. I just work day by day to break my bad habits. I know that I eat too many sweets every day. I just try to resist them. 

這就是新年決心的問(wèn)題所在。人們很少能堅(jiān)持下去。每個(gè)人一開(kāi)始都懷有良好的意愿，但很難堅(jiān)持下去。我不立新年決心。我發(fā)現(xiàn)我只是打破了它們。我只是日復(fù)一日地努力戒掉我的壞習(xí)慣。我知道我每天吃太多糖果。我只是試著抵制它們。

I think that every day is a new day, regardless of whether it is New Year's Day or not. Bad habits are hard to break. The best thing is never to start any bad habits. I don't know if my brother will ever stop biting his nails, but I know that each January he intends to stop. Maybe one of these New Year's Days, he'll get over that habit.

我認(rèn)為每一天都是新的一天，無(wú)論是否是新年。壞習(xí)慣很難改掉。最好的辦法就是永遠(yuǎn)不要養(yǎng)成壞習(xí)慣。我不知道我弟弟是否會(huì)停止咬指甲，但我知道每年一月他都打算停止。也許在某一年的新年，他會(huì)改掉這個(gè)習(xí)慣。
