David Foster's daughter is defending him against criticism that he "abandoned" his older children.

The music producer, 74, shared a video of his 2-year-old son Rennie drumming to Michael Jackson's hit "Rock With You" on Instagram on Friday. The comments on the post are full of praise for Rennie's musical talent, but one Instagram user took the opportunity to criticize his parenting.

"Lol!!!! He's the dad.....he's also got daughters (he abandoned) older than me," the user wrote in response to someone else.

Foster's daughter Amy S. Foster replied to the comment, defending her father.

"Hi....im a daughter...absolutely no abandonment," Amy, 50, wrote, tagging the user.

"I literally just talked to my dad five minutes ago," she continued. "Are you sticking up for us?"

Amy admonished the person for seeing a video of a young boy drumming and choosing to turn it into something negative.

"All you have to do is look at the comments and Rennie's sisters have all chimed in with compliments....We're great," she continued.

Rennie is David's only son and only child with his current wife, Katharine McPhee, whom he married in 2019.

In a 2023 interview with PEOPLE, David admitted that he was hoping to be more present with Rennie than he was with his older children.
