Tyler Goodson, who was featured on the popular S-Town podcast series, died after a police standoff, according to authorities.

The New York Times reported that officers arrived at a home in Woodstock, Alabama, after midnight on Sunday and allegedly found Goodson, 32, barricaded inside.

According to Patch.com, Goodson wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday, "Police bout to shoot me down in my own yard."

PEOPLE reached out to the Alabama Law Enforcement agency and did not immediately hear back.

While speaking about the incident to WVTM-TV, Woodstock Mayor Jeff Dodson called it "the worst day in office I've ever had." Dodson told the outlet that he's known Goodson's family for over 30 years, which made the situation even more difficult for him.

The mayor also asked the public to be "compassionate and respectful" towards Goodson's loved ones. Woodson leaves behind five children, according to WBRC.

The S-Town podcast was an early success upon its 2017 release. In its first week, episode downloads reached 16 million, per The New York Times. The podcast also received a 2017 Peabody Award.
