A: I have heard a lot about the Bible but never read it.
B: Well, someone once said that it's the world's best-selling book but also the world's least read book!
A: Why is that?
B: Some people think that the Bible is difficult to read because they are used to the King James are many modem translations Version where some of the English is difficult but there available now.
A: You said that the Bible is the world's best-selling book. Why is chat?
B: Several reasons. There are many great stories in it such as David and Goliath. Jonah and the Whale and the Good Samaritan.
A: Wasn't he the one who helped someone in distress when nobody else would?
B: That's right. Jesus told that story to emphasise that everyone is our neighbour and we have a responsibility rewards them.
A: So Jesus was a great teacher as well as a good man.
B: He was actually more than that. He was fully man and God too.
A: I find that hard to believe. Isn't the Bible just a collection of myths and fables?
B: Some people think so but most Christians take it literally as God's word which is another reason for its popularity.
A: But God didn't write it.
B: About 40 different people wrote it over a period of 1500 years on 3 different continents and in 3 different languages but all the writer claimed to have been inspired by God.
A: I see. Can you tell me another reason?
B: Many people see it as the finest lit Shakespeare. There are some incredibly poetic passages in it that have stood the test of time .
A: Can you give me an example?
B: There's I Corinthians chapter 13 which is called The Gift of Love. Prime Minister Tony Blair read it at Lady Diana's funeral.Among other things it says, “Love is patient; Love is kind; Love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. "
A: So the Bible is full of exciting stories, great literature and a book of faith for Christians?
B: That's right. But remember too that the Old Testament is also known as the Hebrew Bible which is the faith book for Jews. That's another reason for its popularity.
