Reasons for Intonation 語調(diào)變化的原因
1. New Information
新信息
It sounds like rain.
Rain is the new information. It's the most important word in the sentence.
Rain(雨)是新的信息，是這個(gè)句子中最重要的單詞。
2. Opinion
觀點(diǎn)
It sounds like rain, but I don't think it is.
In this case, intonation makes the meaning the opposite of what the words say.
在這個(gè)句子里，語調(diào)使它的意思正好與字面意思相反。
3. Contrast
對(duì)比
He likes rain, but he hates snow.
Like and hate are contrasted and are the stronger words in the sentence.
like和hate正好形成對(duì)比，是這個(gè)句子里最有力的兩個(gè)單詞。
4. Negative
否定
The rain didn't affect his plans, though.
Didn't negate the meanings of the following words.
Didn't正好否定了它后面謂語動(dòng)詞的意思。
