兩個(gè)輪子的自行車(chē)大家再熟悉不過(guò)了。如果多給你一個(gè)輪胎，你可能會(huì)嫌它累贅、多余。就像一對(duì)情侶在約會(huì)時(shí)，旁邊還有一個(gè)朋友作陪的話(huà)，這個(gè)朋友就會(huì)顯得有點(diǎn)不合時(shí)宜了。

A third wheel is a person or thing that serves no useful purpose, or an unwanted third party accompanying two people on a date. Such a person is as useful as a third wheel on a bicycle.

Third wheel指不發(fā)揮任何作用的人和事物，或是在兩人約會(huì)時(shí)陪伴在旁的一個(gè)多余的人，即我們所說(shuō)的“電燈泡”。之所以叫third wheel是因?yàn)檫@樣的人就跟自行車(chē)上放第三個(gè)輪子一樣，一無(wú)是處。

For example:

Larry and Jenny asked me to go out for dinner yesterday, but I said no, because I didn’t want to be a third wheel.

賴(lài)瑞和詹妮昨天叫我跟他們一起出去吃飯，但是我沒(méi)去，我可不想當(dāng)電燈泡。
