四月一號愚人節(jié)。李華到處去找Michael, 有事商量。今天她會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語,sketchy和sucker。
L:Michael,和我住在一起的小陳今天打電話到我工作的地方。她說警察到家里去找我。他們說我的簽證有問題。我該怎么辦?我很害怕。
M:What? I don't believe her. That story sounds sketchy.
L:你說聽起來什么?你不信小陳說的話?
M:That's right. I said her story is "sketchy" . That means it is suspicious and cannot be trusted.
L:噢,sketchy就是可疑,不可信。你怎么知道小陳說的話不可信?
M: Well, for one thing, the police usually don't care about visas. They are too busy looking for serious criminals.
L:嗯,對呀,警察抓罪犯還忙不過來呢,他們才不管簽證呢!移民局的人才是管簽證的。這么說來,小陳的話是有點(diǎn)可疑,sketchy。
M:Also, I don't think the police or immigration officers would go to your house. That sounds very sketchy.
L: 對,Michael, 你可真行吶! 要是簽證有問題,移民局一般會(huì)先給我一封信,他們才不會(huì)到家去找我呢。這真是越說越不可信了。
M:But if you want to know what's really sketchy, you should remember what day it is.
L:今天是什么日子呀?噢。。。今天是四月一號愚人節(jié)! 喲,我的老天爺呀,我沒想到小陳會(huì)跟我開這個(gè)玩笑。
M:Heh heh, your roommate is pretty sketchy too, if you ask me.
L:等等,你也能說一個(gè)人sketchy? 你覺得小陳這個(gè)人不太可信?對,她的話確實(shí)是靠不住。上星期在聚會(huì)上見到的那個(gè)人,死跟著我不放,楞要送我回家,我能不能說,that guy was very sketchy?
