As urban renewal plans escalated and newschools built in the town centre down the hill, parents from the villagestarted sending their children to the town to receive better education.
Most of them left but the 11-year-oldJiaqi chose to stay.
Jiaqi is one of China's nine millionleft-alone children. His mother abandoned him when he was a baby and his fatherwent to work in another city.
