He worked on improving the Chinese gnomon and worked at Kublai Khan's observatory. Therehe formulated the Shoushi calendar and calculated the year to be 365. 2425 days.
這與《格利高里歷》是一樣的,但是早了將近300年。

盡管郭守敬在歷法上做出很大的成績,但是他卻認(rèn)為圓周率是3,而不像祖沖之的3.14159265和張衡的3. 142那么精確。
Although he did a great deal on the modern calendar, he suggested pi 3, unlike Zu Chongzhi's3. 14159265 and Zhang Heng's 3. 142. In engineering he is best known for constructing theartificial Kunming Lake in Beijing as a reservoir and part of a new waterway for graintransport.

Asteroid 2012 Guo Shou-Jing was named after him.
