Nancy從Innovo面試回來(lái)以后,忐忑不安地等待了整整一個(gè)星期。她每天保持手機(jī)24小時(shí)開(kāi)機(jī),走到哪里都不離手,生怕miss a call(漏接了電話)。從清晨的滿懷期待到傍晚的失落沮喪,她覺(jué)得自己的小心臟在承受著莫大的挑戰(zhàn)。
就在這心緒的忽晴忽雨中,Nancy終于在周五下午接到了Innovo的HR Manager的電話,通知她被accepted(錄用)了,下周一就可以去上班了。撂下電話,Nancy的小世界突然間開(kāi)始陽(yáng)光燦爛,一個(gè)全新的未來(lái)在向她走來(lái)。
整個(gè)周末,Nancy一直在憧憬著到Innove工作的情景:一個(gè)穿著時(shí)尚得體,舉止優(yōu)雅成熟的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)OL,每天出入于全城那地標(biāo)性的現(xiàn)代化建筑里,用流利的英語(yǔ)和來(lái)自世界各地的客戶談判,閑暇時(shí)還可以在公司的pantry(茶水間)享受美味的下午茶……
第一天上班,Nancy就趕上了公司的monthly meeting(月度例會(huì))。會(huì)議上午十點(diǎn)開(kāi)始,差五分鐘十點(diǎn)的時(shí)候,坐在Nancy對(duì)面的Linda站起來(lái)伸了個(gè)懶腰,用眼神向她示意可以start off(出發(fā))了。做為新人,參加會(huì)議總要表現(xiàn)得involved(投入)一點(diǎn),于是Nancy拿起一本帶有公司logo(標(biāo)識(shí))的筆記本,和Linda一起向電梯間走去——召開(kāi)月度例會(huì)的會(huì)議室在14層。剛進(jìn)電梯間就有一部電梯停下了,可是門(mén)一開(kāi),里面已經(jīng)站滿了人,而且連著兩部都是這樣……“反正只有三層,咱們還是走上去吧。”Linda建議道。
等兩人來(lái)到會(huì)議室時(shí),三分之二的座位已經(jīng)坐滿了??磥?lái)大家的時(shí)間觀念都很強(qiáng)。
十點(diǎn)鐘,會(huì)議準(zhǔn)時(shí)開(kāi)始了。負(fù)責(zé)管理中國(guó)區(qū)的Vice President Johnson Timberland先用十分鐘的時(shí)間總結(jié)了一下上個(gè)月度的工作情況。Johnson的美國(guó)南方口音讓Nancy聯(lián)想到電影Forest Gump(《阿甘正傳》)里的口音。他的語(yǔ)速超快,Nancy聽(tīng)起來(lái)十分吃力。但看看周?chē)钠渌?,好像都?tīng)得很入神,Nancy突然覺(jué)得自己與其他同事之間有著很大的差距。這時(shí)Linda似乎看出了她的窘境,沖她做了個(gè)“take it easy (放輕松)”的手勢(shì)。
沒(méi)過(guò)多久,就聽(tīng)Johnson說(shuō)道:“Well, I'd like to hand over to Frank, who is going to lead the next point.”
于是,市場(chǎng)部的負(fù)責(zé)人Frank站了起來(lái),開(kāi)始他的發(fā)言,他首先向全體宣布了新成員Nancy的加入,這也讓Nancy的心里流過(guò)一陣暖意。“Before we move on to next item, I would like to introduce to all of you a new member in our marketing team — Nancy Cui. Nancy will work together with us from today on.”
聽(tīng)到Frank的介紹,Nancy趕忙站起來(lái)跟大家打了個(gè)招呼。結(jié)束了簡(jiǎn)單的介紹,F(xiàn)rank將發(fā)言切入了正題:“Now we come to the question of marketing report of the past month. We successfully developed a marketing campaign for our new product. You can have a look at the details in the three reports distributed to you last week, in which you will have a general idea of what we have achieved so far and what else need to be done.”
這時(shí),Johnson的助理Betty插了一句:“Frank, excuse me for interrupting. May I have a word? One of the reports you mentioned was not sent to me. Could you do that after the meeting?”
聽(tīng)到Betty的話,F(xiàn)rank立即向她道歉:“Really? Sorry for that. Sure, I will do it.”并繼續(xù)剛剛的報(bào)告:“If there is no further question, we will move on to the next topic. We have a problem with the agent in Japan. A new agent is needed. If anyone has a recommendation, please contact me afterwards.”
Frank的發(fā)言結(jié)束后,這次例會(huì)也接近尾聲了,最后Johnson說(shuō)道,“Before we close today’s meeting, let me just summarize the main points. And we should set the date for the next meeting. Thank you for your participation. I declare the meeting is closed.”
會(huì)議結(jié)束后,Nancy回到辦公室,雖然有些內(nèi)容沒(méi)有完全聽(tīng)懂,但大致的會(huì)議進(jìn)程她算是弄明白了。她又向Linda請(qǐng)教了公司各種會(huì)議的形式,Linda告訴她,Innovo每周各個(gè)department(部門(mén))都有weekly meeting(周例會(huì)),每個(gè)月有全公司的monthly meeting。另外,在有特殊情況時(shí)可以隨時(shí)召集相關(guān)人員have a meeting or even a conference。像是今天monthly meeting的主要內(nèi)容其實(shí)就是匯報(bào)各部門(mén)一個(gè)月以來(lái)的工作進(jìn)度與下個(gè)月的工作計(jì)劃,像Frank今天做的市場(chǎng)情況匯報(bào)就需要涵蓋到以下幾項(xiàng)內(nèi)容:

快下班時(shí),Nancy回憶了一遍今天會(huì)議的procedure(程序),尤其是主持者在各個(gè)步驟的銜接上是怎么表達(dá)的,以后這些表達(dá)方式自己肯定也會(huì)用到的。于是,Nancy一邊回憶,一邊在筆記本上寫(xiě)下了她第一天的工作summary(總結(jié)):
1.新員工在遇到問(wèn)題時(shí)要及時(shí)向別人請(qǐng)教,用盡可能短的時(shí)間了解更多的情況。
2.外企注重時(shí)間觀念,punctuality(準(zhǔn)時(shí))是外企人必備的素質(zhì)之一。
3.和漢語(yǔ)一樣,英語(yǔ)也有不同口音和方言,要想自如地和來(lái)自不同國(guó)家和地區(qū)的English speakers交流,需要有針對(duì)性地多練習(xí)聽(tīng)力,提高耳朵的“靈活性”。
4.常規(guī)會(huì)議的流程是固定的,作為主持者要控制好進(jìn)程和節(jié)奏,讓整個(gè)會(huì)議節(jié)奏分明。常規(guī)企業(yè)會(huì)議的結(jié)構(gòu)應(yīng)該包括如下部分:
