關(guān)鍵詞:
Love: 愛
Hate: 恨
The use of "love" and "hate" in English is completely different from Chinese:
It's nowhere near the same: 大相徑庭、完全不同
"So sweet!"
"I love you too!"
Love
Then I go and spoil it all by saying something stupid like "I love you"
Why is saying "I love you" stupid?
Isn't it sweet?
We call it "drop the L bomb": 英語有個(gè)說法,叫扔L炸彈
Too much too soon:
Americans tend to be very careful when it comes to saying "I love you":
McDonald's slogan "I'm lovin' it": 麥當(dāng)勞的廣告語“我就喜歡”
I loved that movie. It was the best!
Did you see the show?
Yes, I totally love it!
How is the food?
I love it! Just love it!
如果用“I like it", 反而容易造成誤解!
Why?
"I like it" or "I like it very much" doesn't sound very sincere or enthusiastic:
"Love" is also used a lot between family members, parents and kids: love
I don't think I've ever said "我愛你" to my parents: 我好像從來沒對我父母說過“我愛你”
It feels so awkward. I don't know how to say it: 感覺很尷尬,不知怎么開口
My parents don't really say it to me either:
But I say "mommy loves you" to my sons all the time: 但是,我倒常用英語跟孩子說“mommy loves you"
I don't really say it in Chinese though, feels really awkward:
Maybe when it's not your mother tongue, it's easier to say:
WASPs don't say it as much: 英國血統(tǒng)的美國人好像沒那么常說“I love you"
WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant):
They are more reserved:
Sons don't say "I love you" as much as daughters: I love you"
Girls, even grown-up girls say it all the time to their parents: 女兒,就算是成年了,也常跟父母說“I love you"
I hated that movie. It was so bad.
It has been raining non-stop. I hate this weather!
Traffic is so bad. I hate it!
To hate a person?
Be careful with using "hate" on people: 用在人身上,要特別謹(jǐn)慎
You can use it jokingly with your friends:
A: My husband is taking me on a trip to Italy!
B: Oh, I hate you!
But in general, hate is a very strong word if you use it on people:
I hate it when you ...:
But it's still pretty direct and strong:
When a Chinese girl says "你真討厭",it's mostly being coquettish: 中國女生說“你真討厭”,經(jīng)常是在撒嬌
Cutesy:
A love hate relationship |
A love hate relationship with someone or something: 又愛又恨、愛恨交加的關(guān)系
I have a love hate relationship with my phone: 我對手機(jī)真是又愛又恨
A love hate relationship with your work/your boss:
Many foreigners have a love hate relationship with China:
*大家注意不是A love and hate relationship;
而是A love hate relationship*
Love to hate:
Especially true with celebrities:
Kim Kardashian is someone many Americans love to hate: 比如卡戴珊,美國人就是love to hate
They hate her for being so high-profile, but they love to read news about her:
They can't get enough of her: 欲罷不能
Is there a Chinese celebrity who people love to hate?
