① ordinary意為“普通的，平淡無奇的”，指“沒有什么特別的地方”。

We are all ordinary people. 我們都是普通人。

Although she was rich，she was always in ordinary dress. 盡管她很富有，但她總是穿著平常的衣服。

② common意為“共同的，普遍的”。

He is their common enemy. 他是他們共同的敵人。

This custom is very common in that area. 這種風(fēng)俗在那個地方很普遍。

It has become common knowledge. 這已是眾所周知了。

提示

common也可作“普通的”講，這時可同ordinary換用，“普通人”也可說成common people。

③ usual意為“遵循常規(guī)的，習(xí)慣性的，一貫如此的”。

It is usual for him to go to the office on foot. 他慣常步行去上班。

She made the usual mistakes which all beginners make. 她犯的就是那些初學(xué)者老犯的錯誤。
