① in place表示“在適當?shù)牡胤?，在本來應該在的地方”，常作表語。

The books are all in place on the shelves. 書架上的書都放在應放的地方。

② in one's place表示“代替某人”，相當于in place of sb.。（還可以表示在適當位置上。）

The manager is away and I'll attend the meeting in his place. 經(jīng)理不在，我將代替他出席會議。（=in place of the manager）

Everything in the room is in its place. 房間里的一切都井然有序。（相當于in place）

③ out of place表示“不合適，不協(xié)調(diào)”，常作表語。
