放下玻璃杯
A lecturer was giving a lecture to his student on stress management.
一位老師正在給他的學(xué)生講如何處理壓力。
He raised a glass of water and asked the audience, “How heavy do you think this glass of water is?”
他端著一杯水,然后問(wèn)學(xué)生:“你們認(rèn)為這杯水有多重?”
The students’ answers ranged from 20g to 500g.
學(xué)生們的回答從20g到500g不等。
“It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour,I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance. It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.
“它的實(shí)際重量并不重要,這取決于你端它多久。倘若我端它一分鐘,沒(méi)問(wèn)題。如果我端它一個(gè)鐘頭,我的右手臂將會(huì)感覺(jué)疼痛。假如我一整天都端著它,你們就要叫輛救護(hù)車(chē)了。我端著它越久,它就越重,這才是它準(zhǔn)確的重量。”
“If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burden becoming increasingly heavier.
“如果我們總是背負(fù)著擔(dān)子,遲早,我們將無(wú)法承受,這個(gè)擔(dān)子則會(huì)變得愈加沉重。”
“What you have to do is to put the glass down, rest for a while before holding it up again.”
“你放下這杯水,休息一下再端起來(lái),會(huì)怎么樣呢。”
We have to put down the burden periodically,so that we can be refreshed and are able to carry on.
我們必須要不定時(shí)地放下杯子,這樣我們才能恢復(fù)力氣繼續(xù)端起它。
So before you return home from work tonight, put the burden of work down. Don’t carry it back home. You can pick it up tomorrow.
因此,今晚下班回家后,放下工作的擔(dān)子。不要將它帶回家。你可以明天再擔(dān)起它。
Whatever burdens you are having now on your shoulders, let it down for moment if you can.
不管你肩上有什么擔(dān)子,如果可以的話(huà),先放下一會(huì)兒。
