Captain Ahab, said Starbuck, who, with Stubb and Flask, had thus far been eyeing his superior with increasing surprise, but at last seemed struck with a thought which somewhat explained all the wonder.

亞哈船長,斯達(dá)巴克說,他跟斯塔布和弗拉斯克一直就越來越驚訝地盯著他的上司看,不過,最后好象突然想到一種足以說明這一切的奇跡的事情似的。

Captain Ahab, I have heard of Moby Dick--but it was not Moby Dick that took off thy leg?

亞哈船長,我也聽到過莫比-迪克,不過,搞掉你的腿的該不是莫比-迪克吧?

Who told thee that? CRIed Ahab; then pausing, Aye, Starbuck; aye, my hearties all round; it was Moby Dick that dismasted me;

誰說的?亞哈大聲叫道;頓了一會,是呀,斯達(dá)巴克,是呀,我的全體伙伴呀;搞掉我的腿的就是莫比-迪克;

Moby Dick that brought me to this dead stump I stand on now.

莫比-迪克弄得我只剩這只站在這里的死樁頭了,

Aye, aye, he shouted with a terrific, loud, animal sob, like that of a heart-stricken moose;

是呀,是呀,他以一種可怖的。高聲的。獸性的嗚咽聲氣叫嚷起來,直象是一只被打中了心臟的麋鹿的嗚咽聲;

Aye, aye! it was that accursed white whale that razeed me; made a poor pegging lubber of me for ever and a day!

是呀,是呀,折掉了我的腿的就是那條該死的白鯨呀;它一下子就弄得我永遠(yuǎn)是個可憐的獨腳水手了!

Then tossing both arms, with measureless imprecations he shouted out:

接著,他兩臂一甩,以無比恨毒的聲氣高聲叫嚷起來:

Aye, aye! and I'll chase him round Good Hope, and round the Horn, and round the Norway Maelstrom, and round perdition's flames before I give him up.

是呀,是呀!我要走遍好望角,走遍合恩角,走遍挪威的大渦流,走遍地獄的火坑去追擊到它后,這才撒手。

And this is what ye have shipped for, men! to chase that white whale on both sides of land, and over all sides of earth, till he spouts black blood and rolls fin out.

這就是雇你們來做的事,朋友們!要在海里,要到天涯海角去追擊它,直追擊得它噴出黑血,落盡魚鰭。

What say ye, men, will ye splice hands on it, now? I think ye do look brave.
