近期一項(xiàng)由衛(wèi)生部發(fā)起的調(diào)查研究顯示有1/4的初中生體重超過正常標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。研究樣本大約包括4400個(gè)臺灣初中生。研究發(fā)現(xiàn)35%的男孩和22%的女孩體內(nèi)帶有多余的卡路里,這會使他們將來面臨很多健康問題,包括糖尿病。

Chairman Chuang Lee-ming of the Diabetes Association of the Republic of China says thetime for action has come: "Prevention is more effective than treatment. Since we know thatbeing overweight is one of the risk factors for diabetes in children, we should take the problemseriously."

While severely obese people are currently a rarity in Taiwan, the experiences of the U.S.,Canada and much of Western Europe show that weight can sneak up on a population quickly.Taiwan should endeavor to nip obesity in the bud, before it's too late.
雖然目前有嚴(yán)重肥胖問題的人在臺灣很罕見,但是美國、加拿大和西歐許多國家的經(jīng)驗(yàn)都顯示,肥胖問題可能很快便不知不覺地找上許多人。臺灣當(dāng)局應(yīng)積極應(yīng)對,將肥胖癥扼殺在萌芽狀態(tài),以免悔之不及。
