Stuart slept under the canoe that night.

斯圖亞特那天夜里睡在獨(dú)木舟下。

He awakened at four to find that the rain had stopped.

四點(diǎn)鐘醒來(lái)時(shí)他發(fā)現(xiàn)雨停了。

The day would break clear.

天已經(jīng)晴了。

Already the birds were beginning to stir and make bright sounds in the branches overhead.

鳥(niǎo)兒們已經(jīng)在頭頂?shù)闹︻^上大聲的唱歌了。

Stuart never let a bird pass without looking to see if it was Margalo.

斯圖亞特每看到一只鳥(niǎo)都要仔細(xì)看看它是不是瑪戈。

At the edge of the town he found a filling station and stopped to take on some gas.

在小鎮(zhèn)的邊上他找到了一個(gè)加油站，便把車(chē)停在那里準(zhǔn)備加油。

"Five, please," said Stuart to the attendant.

“請(qǐng)來(lái)五滴，”斯圖亞特對(duì)負(fù)責(zé)加油的人說(shuō)。

The man looked at the tiny automobile in amazement.

"Five what?" he asked.

"Five drops," said Stuart.

But the man shook his head and said that he couldn't sell such a small amount of gas.

可那個(gè)男人卻搖搖頭說(shuō)他沒(méi)法賣(mài)這么少的汽油。

"Why can't you?" demanded Stuart.

“為什么不能?”斯圖亞特問(wèn)。

You need the money and I need the gas.

你掙的是錢(qián)而我要的是汽油。

Why can't we work something out between us?

我們之間為什么就不能做生意?

The filling station man went inside and came back with a medicine dropper.

這個(gè)男人回去找出了一根醫(yī)用滴管。

Stuart unscrewed the cap of the tank and the man put in five drops of gasoline.

斯圖亞特?cái)Q開(kāi)油箱蓋，那個(gè)人往里滴了五滴汽油。

"I've never done anything like this before," he said.

“我以前還從沒(méi)干過(guò)這種事呢，”他說(shuō)。
