第十四章 介詞 down, during 和except 的用法

　　1. down:

　　l)沿著……往下：

　　They travelled down the River Congo.

　　他們沿剛果河順流而下。

　　Together we walked down the stairs.

　　我們一道走下樓來(lái)。

　　Going down the hill she met Tom.

　　在下山時(shí)她碰到湯姆。

　　2)由近往遠(yuǎn)處，向市中心區(qū)：

　　She bade us good-night and hurried down the road.

　　她和我們說(shuō)了再見(jiàn)，順著馬路匆匆走掉。

　　They went down town together that afternoon.

　　那天下午他們一道進(jìn)城了。

　　I was down Ford Street doing a bit of shopping.

　　我剛才到福特街買東西去了。

　　2. during:

　　l)在(某段時(shí)間)內(nèi)：

　　She woke many times during the night.

　　夜里她醒了好幾次。

　　We often worked there during the vacation.

　　假期中我們常在那里工作。

　　During the first few months everything went smoothly.

　　頭幾個(gè)月一切進(jìn)行得很順利。

　　2)在(進(jìn)行某劃動(dòng))的時(shí)期內(nèi)：

　　They didn't say a word during the meal.

　　吃飯時(shí)他們一句話都沒(méi)說(shuō)。

　　He came in during the film.

　　在放電影時(shí)他進(jìn)來(lái)了。

　　He fe11 asleep during the lesson.

　　上課時(shí)他睡枕了。

　　3. except 除去，除了：

　　l)except跟名詞或代詞：

　　He came here every day except sunday.

　　除了星期天他每天都來(lái)這兒。

　　None of us could speak English except him.

　　除了他我們誰(shuí)也不會(huì)講英語(yǔ)。

　　2)except跟介詞短語(yǔ)不定式等：

　　I looked everywhere except in the bed room.

　　除了臥室我哪兒都找了。

　　It had no effect except to make him angry.

　　這除了使他生氣別無(wú)其他作用。

　　3)用于except for除了(有)：

　　Except for one old lady，the bus was empty.

　　除了有一位老太婆車子是空的。

　　Everyone was tired except for John.

　　除了約翰大家都很累。
