(1) 一般說來,若表示泛指意義的“身高”或抽象意義的“身高”,通常不可數(shù)。如:
He is above the middle height. 他是中等以上的身材。
They were both of middle height. 他們兩人都是中等身材。
It was close on ten feet in height. 它們接近10英尺高。
The plane rapidly gained height. 飛機急速升高。
The teacher lined the students up according to height. 老師把學生按個兒高矮排好隊。
(2) 若表示某一特定的高度,可與不定冠詞連用。如:
The aircraft was flying at a height of 2000 feet. 飛機在2000英尺的高空飛行。
Such birds can fly at a height of 15,000 feet. 這種鳥能在15,000英尺的高空飛行。
Her injuries are consistent with a fall from a great height. 她的傷情與從高處墜落的情況相符。
(3) 若強調不同人或事物的高度,可用復數(shù)形式。如:
We saw some buildings of different heights. 我們看到一些高低不一的建筑。
The table is available in several different heights. 這款桌子有幾種不同的高度可供選擇。
2. 若表示“高處”“高地”“山頂”等,通常要用復數(shù)形式。如:
The climbers scaled the heights. 登山者登上高峰。
I’m terrified of heights. 我極其害怕登高。
Heights terrify me! 我一登高就怕的要死。
You must conquer your fear of heights. 你必須克服恐高癥。
Many people suffer from a great dread of heights. 許多人非常畏高。
The heights above the city provide a beautiful view. 從城市的高處看景色狠美。

3. 若表示“頂點”“高潮”,通常不可數(shù),但有時可連用不定冠詞。如:
Summer was at its height. 正值盛夏。
