59. A Lost Bag
No sooner had the bell rung than a middle-aged man, accompanied by our teacher, walked into the classroom. All of us looked at one another. Questions were written on every face.
The man stepped onto the stage and said, "I lost my bag on my way to my office two days ago. As I was wondering where I could find it, I received a phonecall. It was a girl, who had picked up my lost bag near a bus-stop and she had found my phone number in the bag.
Then I realized I must have lost my bag when I was hurrying to catch the bus. The girl didn't leave until I returned to the bus-stop and got back my bag. But she then left in such a hurry that I had no time to ask her name. I have spent two days visiting the schools nearby. I would like to thank her."
As he was speaking, our teacher walked to Guanlan Xu and asked her, "Why didn't you tell me the reason when you came to school late the day before yesterday?" At that time, Guanlan had to look up. Before she said anything, the man cried out, "It is her. She is the very person who returned the bag to me!" All the eyes were fixed on Guanlan with appreciation.
