The double life of Alfred Bloggs
These days, people who do manual work often receive far more money than people who work in offices. People who work in offices are frequently referred to as' white collar workers' for the simple reason that they usually wear a collar and tie to go to work. Such is human nature, that a great many people are often willing to sacrifice higher pay for the privilege of becoming white collar workers. This can give rise to curious situations, as it did in the case of Alfred Bloggs who worked as a dustman for the Ellesmere Corporation. When he got married, Alf was too embarrassed to say anything to his wife about his job.
1.These days, people who do manual work often receive far more money than people who work in offices.
manual ['mænju?l]
adj.

語言點1:句子結(jié)構(gòu)分析:far more money than…
These days 如今;at present 目前;at the present time 目前;currently 當今;nowadays 目前;for the moment目前;for the time being 時下;presently 時下。
2.People who work in offices are frequently referred to as'white collar workers' for the simple reason that they usually wear a collar and tie to go to work
frequently ['fri:kw?ntli]
adv.
Do you complain frequently?
collar ['k?l?]

3.Such is human nature, that a great many people are often willing to sacrifice higher pay for the privilege of becoming white collar workers.
willing ['wili?]

vt.

Such is human nature that everybody tries to earn more and work less.
Such is human nature that young people are often willing to run after their idols.
4.This can give rise to curious situations, as it did in the case of Alfred Bloggs who worked as a dustman for the Ellesmere Corporation.

dustman ['d?stm?n]
(He)spent the next eight hours as a dustman.
為了避免重復,did用來替代give rise to curious situations。
語言點2:give rise to sth.=cause,表示“引起或?qū)е履呈?rdquo;。
Such conduct might give rise to misunderstanding.

Too…to…
語言點2:too…to…
One is never too old to learn.
