On her return from flying a kite, little Darley, agedeight, was pulled onto her Daddy's knee andinformed that the fairies of that day brought a bigsurprise—a little baby brother. She seemed glad, andpresently said, “Will you give me a stamp, Daddy? Iwant to write and tell Brother Tom.”

The father was touched by this, and provided the little girl with the materials to write a letter toher brother, who was away at school. She took a bottle of soda from the fridge and went to herown room. Later, curious to know how she would tell the news, her father took an opportunityto read what she had written. He received something of a shock on reading the following:
