第15單元 經(jīng)商之“耳”
was in a terrible accident at work. He fell through afloor tile and ripped off both of his ears.
湯姆工作時(shí)發(fā)生嚴(yán)重意外。他因?yàn)樗さ棺驳降匕迳系拇纱u,兩只耳朵被扯掉了。
Since he was permanently disfigured, he settledwith the company for a rather large sum of money.
由于是永久性毀容,他向公司要求了一大筆賠償金。
One day, decided to invest his money in a smallbusiness.
有一天,湯姆決定用他的錢投資小生意。
After weeks of negotiations, he bought the company outright. But, he realized that he knewnothing about running such a business and quickly set out to hire someone who could do thatfor him.
經(jīng)過(guò)幾個(gè)星期的協(xié)商,他把公司全部買下來(lái);不過(guò)他知道自己在經(jīng)營(yíng)公司方面一無(wú)所知,便立即著手雇請(qǐng)能夠幫他的人。
He set up three interviews. The first guy was great. At the end of the interview, asked him, "Do you noticed anything different about me?" And the gentleman answered, "Why yes, Icouldn't help but notice you have no ears."
他安排了三場(chǎng)面試。第一個(gè)家伙還不錯(cuò),面試結(jié)束時(shí),湯姆問(wèn)他:“你有注意到我哪里不一樣嗎?”這位先生回答:“當(dāng)然有啰,我很難不去注意到你沒有耳朵。”
Tom got very angry and threw him out.
湯姆大發(fā)雷霆,把他給趕走了。
The second interview was with a woman, and she was even better than the first guy. Heasked her the same question, “Do you notice anything different about me?” And she replied, “Well, you have no ears.”
第二次面試來(lái)的是一位女子,比第一個(gè)家伙還要優(yōu)秀。他也問(wèn)她同樣的問(wèn)題:“你注意到我哪里不一樣嗎?”她回答:“這個(gè)嘛,你沒有耳朵啊。”
Tom again was upset and tossed her out.
他又氣得把她轟出去了。
The third and last interview was the best of all three. He seemed to be a better businessmanthan the first two put together.
第三次,也是最后一次面試,應(yīng)征者算是最優(yōu)秀的。他似乎是個(gè)比前兩個(gè)人加起來(lái)都還要棒的生意人。
Tom was anxious,but went ahead and asked the young guy the same question:"Do you noticeanything different about me?"
湯姆有點(diǎn)擔(dān)心,但還是直接問(wèn)這個(gè)年輕人同樣的問(wèn)題:“你有注意到我哪里不一樣嗎?”
And to his surprise, the young guy answered, “Yes. You wear contact lenses.”
令他吃驚的是,這個(gè)年輕人竟回答:“有,你戴了隱形眼鏡。”
Tom was shocked, and remarked, “What an incredibly observant young guy. How in the worlddid you know that?”
湯姆大為震驚,問(wèn)道:“你這個(gè)年輕人觀察力之敏銳,實(shí)在讓人難以置信。你到底是怎么知道的?”
The young guy replied,“Well, it's pretty damn hard to wear glasses with no ears!”
年輕人回答:“這個(gè)嘛,沒有耳朵又要戴眼鏡實(shí)在是難如登天啊!”
