Unit 2 A Ticket Home
第2單元 返鄉(xiāng)的機(jī)票
Greg walked into the office with his head hung low. His fellow co-workers saw his glum face and asked what was wrong. He informed them that he was unable to get the money he needed to fly home and see his family.
葛瑞格垂頭喪氣地走進(jìn)辦公室,同事看到他悶悶不樂(lè)的,便問(wèn)他發(fā)生了什么事。他告訴大伙他沒(méi)錢買機(jī)票回家看他的家人。
He had been working overseas for years. Each month he sends money back to his parents who care for his sister who has a disability. This year his whole family is getting together for a family reunion. Greg wanted to go very badly but he couldn’t afford it.
他在國(guó)外工作八年,每個(gè)月都要寄錢給父母讓他們照顧殘障的妹妹。今年,全家人團(tuán)圓。他非常想回去,可是卻負(fù)擔(dān)不起。
His co-workers gave their sympathies, then told Greg that the boss wanted to see him. He walked down the hall and knocked on his boss’s door. His boss greeted him. “Greg, I know your vacation time is coming up. I thought you could use this.”
同事同情他的遭遇,并告訴葛瑞格老板要見(jiàn)他。他走到老板的門口,敲敲門,老板問(wèn)候他。“葛瑞格,我知道你就快休假了,我想你也許用得著這個(gè)。”
He handed Greg an envelope. Greg opened it and saw a nice sized cheque. “It is your bonuscheque.” His boss informed him. “I thought you could use it sooner than later.” With a big smile, Greg thanked his boss. Greg had his ticket home.
他交給葛瑞格一個(gè)信封,葛瑞格打開(kāi),看到里頭有張面額不小的支票。“這是你的紅利獎(jiǎng)金”,老板告訴他,“我想你很快就會(huì)需要它。”葛瑞格露出燦爛的笑容,謝謝他的老板,他終于有了返鄉(xiāng)的機(jī)票。
