和漢語(yǔ)一樣，英語(yǔ)中表示死的委婉說(shuō)法也為數(shù)不少，kick the bucket就是其中一種。這個(gè)詞語(yǔ)是美國(guó)俚語(yǔ)，含有詼諧幽默的以為。舊時(shí)，人在懸梁自盡時(shí)，常常先站在一個(gè)倒放的水桶上，然后將繩子系在脖子上，并把水桶一踢，就這樣一命嗚呼了，所以kick the bucket就比喻“死”。
