[00:15.41]On Saturday mornings, when they are not at school, they are at work.

[00:22.86]They have part-time jobs with the Sunbeam Travel Company.

[00:29.34]They are sitting in the office.

[00:33.46]Debbie and Simon looked up as the door opened and a middle-aged,

[00:41.20]well dressed lady entered.

[00:45.24]She glanced at them both,hesitated a moment,

[00:51.49]then walked over and sat down opposite Debbie.

[00:57.65]Debbie greeted her cheerfully, and they got down to business.

[01:04.31]"I want to go by train from Germany to Paris. Can you...?"

[01:12.86]Simon sighed, picked up some paper from his desk and took it over to the fax machine

[01:22.31]Mr Yang,one of Sunbeam's senior employees,was standing there.

[01:30.25]He said,'What's up,Simon?You don't look very happy.'

[01:37.52]'Nothing,'Simon said.

[01:42.06]Mr Yang put his hand on Simon's shoulder.

[01:48.83]'Come on,'he said.

[01:52.35]'Tell me.I'm your friend as well as your colleague.'

[01:59.12]He gave an encouraging smile.

[02:03.48]'It's the customers,'Simon said.

[02:08.63]'They always prefer Debbie to me.I can't understand it.'

[02:16.49]'I can. It's the way you communicate.'

[02:22.45]'How can that be?' Simon said.

[02:27.41]'Communicating is more than speaking and listening,Simon.

[02:34.38]Your body language is important,too.'

[02:39.14]'What kind of language is that?'

[02:43.29]'It's the way you stand and sit and walk.

[02:49.46]It's your gestures and the expression on your face and in your eyes.

[02:57.01]Your whole appearance communicates things, even when you're not speaking.

[03:04.87]'The way you look at customers doesn't give them a good impression Simon.

[03:11.24]For example, you often rest your head on your hand.

[03:18.09]You look downwards.

[03:21.74]You don't smile. You don't turn your head or your body towards the customers.

[03:30.21]But look at Debbie. She's holding her head up.

[03:36.58]She looks at a customer's eyes. She smiles.

[03:58.03]Debbie's is making them feel welcome.

[04:03.46]That's why they go to her,and not to you.

[04:35.41]and without hesitation sat down opposite Simon and gave him a big smile.

[04:45.26]A few moments later,she left,still smiling.

[04:57.98]'Well,Simon,you certainly made a good impression on that customer.Well done.'
