Hello,everyone.I’m honoured to be here to share my ideas about how to teach warming up and reading.

In the process, I will focus on students’ long-term development and enable them to use proper reading skills and strategies. In other words, students are guided to read efficiently and independently.

My teaching plan will include 3 parts. They’re analysis of the teaching material,teaching procedures and blackboard design.

Part 1 Analysis of the teaching material

The topoc of this unit is Nelson Mandela—a modern hero.In this part,students will know about the qualities a great person should have.The reading passage Elias’s Story is to introduce to students the qualities and abilities that make Nelson Mandela such an interesting person to study.Not only was he able to inspire many to follow him despite many difficulties but he became an international symbol for fairness and justice.

Teaching aims

Based on the analysis of the teaching material, I have chosen the following as the teaching aims of my lesson:

1 Knowledge aims:

a. key words and phrases:hero quality willing active republic fight peaceful prison period law fee youth league stage vote position accept violence equal lose heart In trouble worry about out of work as a matter of fact blow up put…in prison

b. key sentences

It was in 1952 and Mandela was the black lawyer to whom I went for advice.

The last thirty years have seen the greatest number of laws stopping our rights and progress,until today we have reached a stage where we have almost no rights at all.淘課$件網(wǎng) www.TaoKEjian.coM

We were put into a posetion in which we had either to accept we were less important,or fight the government.

2 Ability aims

a Talk abot great people.

b Express your points of view.

3 Emotional aims

a Learn about some great people and qualities they have in common.

b Get the students to learn from Nelson Mandela to develop their moral qualities.

Teaching important points

1Understand the real meaning of the hero/heroine

2 Improve the students’ reading ability

Teaching difficult points

1 How to express their own opinions and ideas.

2 How to grasp the main idea of the text.

Teaching methods:

1Fast reading and careful reading

2 Asking and answering activity

3 Individual.pair and group work

4 Discussion.

Teaching aids

A recorder,a projector and a computer.

Part2 Teaching procedures

Step 1 warming up(10 mins)

Task 1 guessing game: who is he/she?

(The teacher read the descriptions and let students guess who he is.in this way,it can practice their listening)淘&課件網(wǎng) wWw.tAoKeJIan.com

Then according to the pictures ,have a discussion about “who is your hero/heroine?why?”

(In this way,students can talk about their heros to pratice their speaking and know how to describe people’s characters.)

Step 2 pre-reading(5mins)

Who is a freedom fighter?then give a short introduction about Nelson Mandela including some short stories.

(students can know some basic information about the great man.They must be impressed by his strong will. )

Step3 while-reading(15 mins)

Fast reading

Task 1 What are the two main characters?

Task 2 how many parts ?what’s the main idea?

Part1(1-2)The life of Elias before he met Mandela.

Part2(3-5)The change of Elias’ life after he met Mandela and what Mandela did.

Task 3 get the Ss to read the text quickly and make a timeline of Elias’ life until he met Nelsom Mandela

(individual work ,students can get the outline of the passage by reading the material quickly. )

Careful reading

Task 4

Elias’ life before meeting Mandela:information:_____________his problem:_____________

Black people’s problem:

(students get the details of the passage by reading carefully.)

Further reading

Task 5 What’s the relationship between Elias and Mandela?friends,help each other

(Purpose of my design:Enable students to understand the given material better using different reading skills)

Step4 post-reading(13mins)

1 group work:have an interview.

Student A :a reporter ;Student B:Elias.

You may ask questions like this:

1)when did you first meet Mandela?How did he help you?...

2 Discussion:

What qualities does Mandela have?What can we learn from him?

(The task aims to consolidate the information they have learnt and also improve speaking and writing skills.At the same time,they will see what makes a great person and what kind of person they should be.)

Step 5 summary(1mins)

Today we have talked a lot about the qualities of great people.From Elias’ story we also know more about Mandela and racial discrimination.Mandela played an important role in fighting for the equality of the black and white.He is really a great man.

Step6 Homework

Pay attention to the new words and phrases;underline the difficult sentences

(I think homework is so important that the Ss should speak English as much as they can in class or after class. It is necessary for the Ss to do some exercises after class to master the knowledge they learned. )
