[00:08.01]As she began getting her things ‘in order’, [00:10.84]she asked for her pastor to come to her house [00:14.16]to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes. [00:17.54]She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service [00:21.14]and what dress she wanted to be buried in. [00:23.77]Everything was in order and as the pastor was preparing to leave, [00:28.17]the woman suddenly remembered one final request, [00:31.99]"Please Pastor, just one more thing," she said excitedly. [00:36.39]"This is very important to me," the woman continued ... [00:40.43]"I want to be buried holding a fork in my right hand." [00:43.85]The pastor gazed at the woman, at a loss for words. [00:47.44]"That surprises you, doesn’t it?" the woman asked. [00:51.16]The pastor replied "Well to be quite honest, I am puzzled by the request". [00:57.20]The woman explained, "You see, Pastor, in all my years of attending church socials, [01:03.68]I remember that when the dishes were being cleared after the main course, [01:07.72]someone would inevitably lean over to me and say, [01:11.46]‘Keep your fork’ ... [01:13.32]it was my favorite part of the meal because I knew that something better was coming. [01:17.36]Something wonderful to end the meal!" [01:19.98]The pastor listened intently and a smile came upon his face. [01:25.15]The woman continued, [01:26.89]"So, I just want people to see me there with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder ... [01:33.15]‘What’s with the fork’... then I want you to tell them: [01:36.98]‘Keep your Fork ... the best is yet to come’". [01:40.93]She knew and trusted that the best was yet to come. [01:44.75]At the funeral, [01:46.17]every one that walked by the woman’s coffin [01:48.24]saw her wearing a beautiful dress with her favorite Bible [01:52.43]held in her left hand and a fork held in her right hand. [01:55.93]Over and over the pastor heard people ask the question, [01:59.64]"Why is she holding a fork?" and his smile began to get larger and brighter each time. [02:05.73]During his message, the pastor explained the fork and what it symbolized to her.. One of her reqests was to be buried wuth her favourite Bible.

Everything was in order and the pastor was preparing to leave when the woman suddenly remembered something very important to her."There's one more thing,"she said excitedly."What's that?"came the pastor'reply."This is very important,"the woman continued.."I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand."

The pastor stood looking at the woman,not knowing quite what to say."That surprises you,doesn't it?"the woman asked."Well ,to be honest,I'm puzzled by the request,"said the pastor.

The woman explained."In all my years of attending church socials and potluck dinners,I always remember that when the dishes of the main course wrer being cleared,someone would inevitably learn over and say,"keep your fork."It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming,like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie.Something wonderful,and with substance! So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder"What's with the fork?" Then I want you to tell them:Keep Your Fork.The best is yet to come."

The pastor'eye welled uo with tears of joy as he hugged the woman good-bye.He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death.But he also knew that the woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did.She knew that something better was coming.

At the funeral people were walking by the woman's casket and they saw the pretty dress she was wearing and her favourite Bible and the fork placed in her right hand.Over and the pastor heard the question"What's with the fork?"And over and over he smiled.

During his message,the pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the woman shortly before she died.He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her.The pastor told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

He was right.So the next time you reach down for your fork,let it remind you,ever so gently, that the best is yet to come.
