It’s no one’s favourite scent – but sweat could soon smell a whole lot sweeter.

沒有人喜歡汗味,但這種味道很快就會(huì)聞起來香很多。

Scientists have created a perfume that breaks down sweat and actually smells better the more someone perspires.

科學(xué)家已經(jīng)研制出了一種香水,它可以分解汗水。人們出汗越多,香水越好聞。

The discovery paves the way for a deodorant that becomes more powerful the hotter you are, making summer journeys on crowded trains far more pleasant.

這一發(fā)現(xiàn)為生產(chǎn)越熱越起作用的除味劑鋪平了道路,也會(huì)讓人在夏日里乘坐擁擠的火車出行時(shí)更加愉快。

People could even delay showering after playing sport, safe in the knowledge that they don’t smell unattractively sweaty.

人們甚至不必在運(yùn)動(dòng)后馬上沐浴,因?yàn)橹浪麄儾⒉粫?huì)有難聞的汗味。

The science could also be used to create sprays that are particularly good at freshening the air of damp bathrooms or sweaty changing rooms.

這一技術(shù)同樣可以用來制造能在潮濕浴室或是充滿汗味的更衣室里保持空氣清爽的噴霧劑。

At its heart are solutions called ionic liquids. They do not have a smell themselves and can swallow up the scent of any chemical that is attached to them.

其核心是一種稱為離子液體的溶液。它們自身沒有任何味道,但是可以吸收附著在它們之上的任何物質(zhì)的味道。

Scientists at Queen’s University Belfast have developed a version that goes on to release the absorbed smell – but only when it is exposed to water.

貝爾法斯特女王大學(xué)的科學(xué)家們還研發(fā)出了一種溶解在水中時(shí)可以繼續(xù)釋放被吸收味道的香水。

When they attached a sweet perfume to an ionic liquid, the scent disappeared.

當(dāng)他們將芬芳的香水附著在這種離子液體上時(shí),香味消失了。

But when water was added to the mix, the fragrance emerged once more.

但是當(dāng)繼續(xù)向混合液體中加水時(shí),香味再次出現(xiàn)了。

And the more water the researchers added, the stronger the smell, a Royal Society of Chemistry journal reports.

據(jù)《皇家化學(xué)學(xué)會(huì)》期刊報(bào)道,加入的水越多,香味就越濃烈。

The ionic liquid can also trap and break down the chemicals behind the nasty smell of sweat – making it even more attractive to deodorant manufactures.

這種離子液體還能夠捕捉并分解造成難聞汗味的化學(xué)物質(zhì),使得這種液體對(duì)除味劑制造業(yè)更具吸引力。

Contrary to popular belief, sweat itself is odourless.

與人們通常所認(rèn)為的相反,汗水其實(shí)沒有氣味。

Body odour occurs when bacteria feast on the sugary proteins in sweat, releasing pungent chemicals.

只有當(dāng)細(xì)菌分解汗水中的糖蛋白時(shí),才會(huì)釋放出有刺激性氣味的物質(zhì),進(jìn)而產(chǎn)生體臭。
