印度政府要求英國歸還女王王冠光之山巨鉆

　　India will make all possible efforts to get back theKoh-i-Noor Diamond from Britain despite commentsby New Delhi's solicitor general that the pricelessjewel should stay with the former colonial ruler, thegovernment said on last Tuesday.

　　盡管印度總檢察長認為原殖民統(tǒng)治者仍應保有“光之山巨鉆”，但是印度政府上周二表示，將會盡最大努力從英國取回這枚無價的寶石。

　　India has repeatedly demanded that Britain returnthe 105-carat diamond, which was presented toQueen Victoria in 1850 and today sits on display aspart of the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London.

　　據(jù)報道，印度方面要求英國歸還這枚重達105.6克拉的“光之山巨鉆”，該鉆石是印度1850年送給維多利亞女王的，英國隨后將它鑲嵌在王后戴的王冠上，如今該王冠擺放在倫敦塔中。

　　India's solicitor general surprised many on last Monday when he told the Supreme Court thathis country should forgo its claims to the jewel because it was given to Britain as a gift by anIndian king in 1851, rather than stolen as many Indians today believe.

　　不過，印度總檢察長上周一卻對最高法院表示，印度應該放棄追回鉆石的請求，因為“光之山”是在1851年印度國王將其作為禮物送給英國的，而不是如今許多印度人認為被盜竊的。他的這一表態(tài)讓很多人震驚。

　　The government said on last Tuesday his view did not represent its own and that it was yet togive its opinion to the court, which is hearing a case demanding the diamond be returned.

　　印度政府上周二對此發(fā)表聲明指出，總檢察長的表態(tài)不代表印度政府的立場。印度政府已經向法庭提交了意見，就追回鉆石一案將會進行聽審會。

　　"The Government of India further reiterates its resolve to make all possible efforts to bringback the Koh-i-noor Diamond in an amicable manner," the ministry of culture said.

　　印度文化部部長表示：“政府進一步重申了其決心，將盡一切努力讓“光之山”以友好的方式回歸印度。”

　　The ministry said the stone was a "valued piece of art with strong roots in our nation's history"and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was determined to get it back.

　　該部長表示，這枚鉆石是珍貴的藝術品，深深植根于國家的歷史中。此外，印度總理莫迪也決心取回它。

　　A lawyer in India's neighbor Pakistan last year filed a court petition calling for the stone'sreturn. India and Pakistan became two different countries with partition in 1947, when theybecame independent from Britain.

　　印度的鄰國巴基斯坦的一名律師去年就向其法庭請愿取回該鉆石。1947年，印度和巴基斯坦正式從大英帝國獨立，分裂成為兩個國家。

　　The Koh-i-Noor is set in the crown worn by Queen Elizabeth, the mother of the reigningmonarch, at the coronation of her husband George VI in 1937, and was placed on her coffin ather funeral in 2002.

　　“光之山巨鉆”由伊麗莎白王后，也就是現(xiàn)任女王的母親，在其丈夫喬治六世的加冕儀式上鑲嵌在王冠之上的。在2002年她的葬禮上，這頂王冠曾放置在她的棺槨之上。

　　The Duchess of Cambridge, who last week visited India with her husband, Prince William, willwear the crown on official occasions when she becomes queen consort. William is second in lineto the British throne.
