英語四級翻譯練習(xí)：明清小說

明清兩朝(the Ming and Qing Dynasties)是中國小說的繁榮時期。從思想和主題方面來說，這個時代的小說包含了傳統(tǒng)文化的精神，充分顯示出其文學(xué)價值和社會作用。在文學(xué)史上，明清小說具有與唐詩、宋詞、元曲(Tang Shi, Song Ci and Yuan Qu)一樣重要的地位。中國文學(xué)四大名著(Four Great Works ofliterature)都是明清時期的代表作品。這些享有世界聲譽的作品都已經(jīng)被改編成影視劇，受到中外觀眾的喜愛。

The Ming and Qing Dynasties are times of prosperity for Chinese novels. From the aspects ofboth ideas and themes, the novels in this period have contained the soul of traditionalculture, fully displaying its value of literature and social effects. In the history of literature,Ming-Qing novels are as important as Tang Shi, Song Ci and Yuan Qu. All the Chinese FourGreat Works of literature are the representative works of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Theseworld-famous works have been adapted into films and TV series which are popular withChinese and foreign audience.

1.第1句中的“繁榮時期”表達為times of prosperity。定語“中國小說的”較長，故將其處理成后置定語，用介詞短語for Chinese novels來表達。

2.翻譯第2句時，將“這個時代的小說……”處理為主句，“從思想和主題方面來說”作狀語，為平衡句子，置于句首，“充分顯示出……”處理為伴隨狀語，用現(xiàn)在分詞短語來表示，故整句譯為From the aspects of bothideas and themes, the novels in this period have contained..., fully displaying...。

3.第3句中的“明清小說具有與唐詩......一樣重要的地位”可譯為Ming-Qing novels are as important asTang Shi...，“與……一樣……”可用as + a. + as結(jié)構(gòu)來表達。

4.最后一句“......都已經(jīng)被改編成影視劇，受到......的喜愛”可用并列結(jié)構(gòu)譯出…have been adaptedinto...and... are popular with...,亦可把“受到......的喜愛”處理成定語從句，表達為which are popularwith...。
