Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The more money people have, the more they should give away to charity.
Ranging from purchasing sports cars, buying villa or traveling to a popular tourist resort, one can choose how to spend their money freely without pressure imposed from the outside. Even though how to spend the money one makes is at their discretion, I do think individuals should donate money to charities with increasing wealth. There are quite a few benefits for being philanthropic as are shown in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, one can be more happy if they reach out to others and be spiritually and mentally healthy. As known to all, human beings are social animals who need to bond and connect with others to survive and thrive. For example, if you have more money than you need to live a happy life, you can donate some of your wealth and fortune to other unfortunate ones. There are numerous orphanages out there who need daily necessity. Also by giving a hand to those who have lost their loved ones in accidents can make you aware of your fortune, thus you can be more confident. By reaching out to others though altruistic behaviors, one will feel the inner gratification, which can be not brought about by money. Plus, it can also allow the individual to be productive and have a sense of purpose.
Additionally, as much as philanthropic behaviors benefit others, it does offer lots of advantages to oneself, like increased social status and recognition especially for businessman and politicians. Through donating money to unlucky ones, the president of a corporation can help to build a very philanthropic image and public branding for its consumers and customers, hence they can promote their products and service by attracting more customers. On top of that, a politician who spreads love and compassion in the community can boast his or her competence as a qualified and competitive candidate for a certain political position, thus enjoy a better chance to be elected. What's more, people in the streets can also benefit themselves by giving money to other, since most of the donations are tax deductibles and they might get tax breaks in the future.
Admittedly, it is not legitimate to claim the moral high ground and point fingers to those billionaires who are stingy in reaching out to others. Nonetheless, philanthropic activities and behaviors should be applauded and embraced since even a tiny altruistic gesture can be contagious and spread positive energy to the community, which ensure a sense of belonging among community members.
In contemplation of the above analysis, I find it reasonable and rational for individuals with increased income to donate money to others since it brings better spiritual and mental health, boasts one's self-esteem and even allows the individuals to have tax breaks and most importantly, it fosters a hospitable and philanthropic atmosphere, making the community a better to live in.
