Judy: I am so sympathetic with Shylock.

我很同情夏洛克。

Veronica: Who? Shylock? What are you doing? Are you reading the merchant of Venice again?

誰(shuí)?夏洛克?你在干嘛?在看《威尼斯商人》?

Judy: Yes. What? I like it. You can’t hate him because Shakespeare hated him.

Veronica: But only a geek likes a man who asks people for their flesh.

Judy: He is going too far about the human flesh part. But what he did was for all the Jews. They were discriminated. They couldn’t even talk loud in public. Any Christian can spit at them.

在那件事情上，他做的很過(guò)分。但是他所做的都是為了猶太人啊。他們被歧視。在公共場(chǎng)合都不能大聲說(shuō)話。任何一個(gè)基督教徒都可以朝他們吐口水。

Veronica: He is a miser. He thinks too much about money. Even his own daughter despises him.

Judy: Every father feels bad when they know their lovely daughters have a crush on some man. It is very hard when your daughter’s hand is taken by someone else.

但知道自己的女兒喜歡上了某個(gè)男人，每個(gè)做父親的心理都不好受。當(dāng)自己女兒的手被別人牽著，這感覺(jué)很不好的。

Veronica: So if you were Antonio, you would pay him with your flesh.

所以如果你是安東尼奧，你愿意用自己的肉來(lái)償還?

Judy: I took his money. I had to do what I had promised. Anyway, why did he go to him at the first place since everyone knew he was not a nice man? They wanted to take advantage of Shylock. Antonio was afraid of losing his wife if he was broke.
