R:Howdy!
L: Just hanging in here. I have a swimming course this semester. But I can swim only about the length. Then I swim down like a brick. I don't want to be a landlubber.
R: I can teach you some swimming skills.
L: Cheers! What style do you use?
R: Mainly butterfly. Sometimes I use breaststroke. backstroke and free style.
L: Amazing. You already know the ropes.
R: Don't get your bowels in an uproar! My mom taught me when I was 6 years old. I still remember how I learned to swim at the very beginning. It was so terrible. I choked several times in water.
L: So do I. But I pulled muscles sometimes, and it was very painful. How can I avoid it?
R: You need some warm-up exercises before swimming.
L: Got it. Can you tread6 water? I want to learn it.
R: No problem. I can teach you next time.

1.此處說(shuō)話人說(shuō)的話比較長(zhǎng),應(yīng)該根據(jù)語(yǔ)調(diào)判斷何時(shí)輪到第二個(gè)人說(shuō)話。
2.don't get your bowels in an uproar 是指“別大驚小怪”。
3.此處do 重讀,表示強(qiáng)調(diào)。
4.learn 中的/n/與it 中的/?/連讀,learn it 讀作/l?:?n?t/。

語(yǔ)調(diào)的暗示——該你說(shuō)話
英語(yǔ)中,語(yǔ)調(diào)除了表示疑問(wèn)了、驚訝等語(yǔ)氣和情感之外,還起到暗示聽(tīng)話人應(yīng)該何時(shí)說(shuō)話的作用。因此,在交流過(guò)程中,一定要注意聽(tīng)清對(duì)方的語(yǔ)調(diào),這樣能幫助你意識(shí)到何時(shí)輪到你說(shuō)話了,避免發(fā)生“搶了別人的話”的情況。具體規(guī)則如下:
1.如果在一個(gè)意群后,說(shuō)話人的音調(diào)完全降了下來(lái),說(shuō)明這個(gè)意群很可能就是最后一個(gè)意群,說(shuō)話人很有可能就此打住。如:
I can't understand↘.
我不明白。
2.如果在一個(gè)意群后聽(tīng)到音調(diào)只降了一半,那就可能不是最后一個(gè)意群,說(shuō)話人可能要轉(zhuǎn)向其他方面或準(zhǔn)備進(jìn)行“長(zhǎng)篇大論竹.有時(shí)說(shuō)話人還會(huì)在降調(diào)中途稍稍將語(yǔ)調(diào)提高,表示“還有下文”。如:
I can't understand↘ why↗ he did it.
我不明白他為什么那樣做。
