大家都喜歡在夏天休個(gè)長(zhǎng)假享受生活。我朋友Jenny最近就去了巴黎，完全沉醉在歷史古跡，美食和精彩的夜生活之中。她可啟發(fā)了我！我也開(kāi)始研究自己該去哪里渡假了，可是目前我還沒(méi)完全決定該去哪里。這也讓我想到一個(gè)習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)。那就是：cast in stone.

Cast本身有鑄造的意思，而stone則是石頭。Cast in stone, 都鑄造在石頭里了，也就是最后決定，板上定釘?shù)囊馑肌?/P>

雖然我在看關(guān)于去巴黎旅游的書(shū)，可是還沒(méi)決定最后是不是去那里。My decision to go to Paris isn't cast in Stone. 下面的例子里，這位家長(zhǎng)遇到了什么難題? 我們來(lái)聽(tīng)聽(tīng)看:

例句-1：It seems like yesterday that my daughter was in kindergarten and now she's graduating from 6th grade. Her class is having a graduation party on June 10th. While I really want to attend, I'll be on a business trip. And I understand the date of the ceremony can't be changed. It's cast in stone.

這段話(huà)是說(shuō)：女兒上幼兒園仿佛還是昨天的事，可是現(xiàn)在她已經(jīng)要六年級(jí)畢業(yè)了！她們班6月10號(hào)開(kāi)畢業(yè)派對(duì)慶祝。雖然我很想?yún)⒓?，但是我那時(shí)侯正好得去出差。而且我知道，日期已經(jīng)不能再改，是板上定釘?shù)氖铝恕?/P>

如果家長(zhǎng)不能出席，孩子一定會(huì)很失望！對(duì)了，你還記得上次我說(shuō)我們家的路口應(yīng)該安裝停車(chē)路標(biāo)的事嗎？我本以為這已經(jīng)是板上定釘?shù)氖虑榱?，可是現(xiàn)在由于資金問(wèn)題還得需要近一步考慮。The board needs to reconsider whether to install a stop sign or not due to budgetary concerns. So it's not cast in stone yet. 出于預(yù)算考慮，小區(qū)委員會(huì)需要重新審核是否要安裝一個(gè)停車(chē)的路標(biāo)，這件事還沒(méi)有最后決定。

每次我去飯館吃飯，對(duì)到底要點(diǎn)什么酒都很猶豫不決。老聽(tīng)別人說(shuō)點(diǎn)酒是一門(mén)很講究的學(xué)問(wèn)，到底是不是這樣呢？我們來(lái)聽(tīng)聽(tīng)看:

例句-2：There's a lot of confusion about wine. Should you only drink white wine with chicken and fish and red wine with red meat? When it comes to deciding what goes together best, experts now say that there are no rules cast in stone. You should let your taste guide you; drink whatever pleases you.

這段話(huà)是說(shuō)：如何點(diǎn)酒確實(shí)是門(mén)學(xué)問(wèn)。是不是雞肉和魚(yú)肉只能搭配白酒，而紅肉只能搭配紅酒呢？專(zhuān)家認(rèn)為，當(dāng)談到如何搭配最好的時(shí)候，并沒(méi)有什么板上定釘?shù)囊?guī)則。你應(yīng)該跟著你的感覺(jué)走，只要你喜歡就好。

我每次去吃西餐，就經(jīng)常不知道自己該點(diǎn)什么酒！聽(tīng)了這段話(huà)才知道，原來(lái)，there are no rules cast in stone on how to order wines. 點(diǎn)酒并沒(méi)有什么固定的規(guī)則。大家注意，這里的cast也可以用其他動(dòng)詞代替，比如set；或是carved; set in stone, carved in stone, 都是同樣的意思，板上定釘。
