Michael在紐約上大學(xué)，他父母住在華盛頓，這個(gè)周末他請(qǐng)李華到他父母家作客。今天，李華會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)：fishy和to luck out。

L: Michael, 謝謝你請(qǐng)我到你家來(lái)過(guò)周末。有機(jī)會(huì)和一個(gè)美國(guó)家庭一 起過(guò)周末對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)是很有意義的。你的爸爸媽媽人真好，我也很喜歡你的妹妹。

M: She's not usually so nice. Normally all she does is complain. I think there's something fishy going on.

L: 噢，你說(shuō)她平時(shí)沒(méi)有象這兩天討人喜歡呀？她老是愛(ài)抱怨，這我 倒是看不出來(lái)。你說(shuō)，there's something fishy going on, 那是什么 意思呀？Fish不是魚(yú)嗎？

M: Oh, fishy is fish with a "y". It means there is something suspicious going on.

L: 你的意思是，你妹妹表現(xiàn)得那么好，和平時(shí)不一樣，你覺(jué)得有點(diǎn) 可疑。為什么呢？

M: Because she always acts this way when she is trying to get our parents to let her do something.

L: 對(duì)，有些孩子是這樣的。當(dāng)他們想問(wèn)家長(zhǎng)要什么的時(shí)候就會(huì)表現(xiàn) 得出奇的好。要求滿(mǎn)足了，一切又照常了。

M: I can say something is fishy if I think someone is lying about something.

L: 這我就清楚了，你要是認(rèn)為某個(gè)人在騙你，你就可以說(shuō)：It seems fishy.

M: That's right.

L: 比方說(shuō)，我那天接到一個(gè)旅行社的電話，說(shuō)我得了一個(gè)獎(jiǎng)。他說(shuō)我可 以到四個(gè)地方去旅行一個(gè)星期只要二百美元，但是要我馬上付這筆錢(qián)。我當(dāng)時(shí)就覺(jué)得可疑，I thought something was fishy, 對(duì)不對(duì)？

M: You're absolutely right. Let me tell you something, the travel company probably doesn't even exist. After you pay them, you won't be able to find them anymore.

L: 喲，幸虧我沒(méi)上當(dāng)。原來(lái)是騙局，等我付了錢(qián)，他們就消失了！ 這可太氣人了！

M: You really have to be careful whenever you smell something fishy.

L: Michael， 一個(gè)周末過(guò)得真快。好象剛到，現(xiàn)在又要搭飛機(jī)走了。

M: Look, half of the flights are canceled because of the snow, but ours is still on time. We really lucked out.

L: 噢，因?yàn)橄卵砸话氲暮桨喽急蝗∠?，我們的卻還按時(shí)飛。 真是運(yùn)氣。你剛才說(shuō)的lucked out大概就是運(yùn)氣的意思吧？

M: Yes, it means we were really fortunate.

L: 那每當(dāng)我覺(jué)得運(yùn)氣好的時(shí)候，我都能用to luck out來(lái)表示嗎？

M: Yes, for example, I can say I really lucked out on that test last week. I didn't study very much for it, but I still knew all the answers on the test.

L: 上星期的考試，我可沒(méi)有考好。你沒(méi)怎么念書(shū)倒是都能答出考題， you really lucked out on that test. 我可沒(méi)有這種運(yùn)氣。我要不念書(shū)就 考不好。

M: Hold on a second, I think they just called my name. I hope nothing's wrong.

L: 對(duì)，我也聽(tīng)到他們叫你的名字呢，快去看看，有什么問(wèn)題。

L: 怎么回事，Michael, 票子沒(méi)有問(wèn)題吧？

M: No, in fact I lucked out again. I dropped my wallet at the ticket counter. They just wanted to return it to me.

L: 喲，你錢(qián)包掉了還不知道，柜臺(tái)撿到了還主動(dòng)還給你。你哪 來(lái)那么好的運(yùn)氣吶！You really lucked out this time! 錢(qián)包里有多少錢(qián) 哪？

M: Not much, only ten bucks! Come on Li Hua, let's board the plane.
