李華的教授剛添了個(gè)女兒。李華和Larry準(zhǔn)備去拜訪這位教授，向他們表示祝賀。今天李華會(huì)學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)：wiped out和cutie-pie。

LH: 嘿！Larry，我想去看瓊斯教授和他太太。他們的女兒Sarah現(xiàn)在也應(yīng)該有幾個(gè)星期大了！

LL: Aren't you worried they are too wiped out to have company?

LH: Wiped out？你說(shuō)瓊斯教授他們?cè)趺礃恿耍?/p>

LL: Too wiped out means they must be really tired. I am sure they haven't gotten much sleep with a new baby in the house.

LH: 噢，Wiped-out就是很疲乏的意思。添了小寶寶他們倆可能都睡不好。不過(guò)我想，我們?cè)缫稽c(diǎn)去拜訪他們，坐一會(huì)兒就走，應(yīng)該沒(méi)問(wèn)題吧。我聽(tīng)說(shuō)baby Sarah真的很可愛(ài)呢！

LL: OK, That sounds good, but we should call before we go. You know, I am amazed Professor Jones is still teaching classes considering how wiped out he must be.

LH: 就是啊，雖然很累，瓊斯教授還來(lái)上課呢！真是讓人佩服！我啊，只要想到去上課都會(huì)累，更何況我還沒(méi)有小寶寶呢。

LL: You're right! Just going to work every day wipes me out. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to get up so many times in the middle of the night to feed the baby and change diapers.

LH: 沒(méi)錯(cuò)，半夜里要起來(lái)好幾次喂奶，換尿布，真是難以想象。我可受不了。

LL：Wait until you have your own baby, you wouldn't mind to be wiped out.

LH：我想是這樣，有了自己的孩子再累也不在乎。 好吧，那我們就給瓊斯教授打個(gè)電話，看他們什么時(shí)候方便讓我們過(guò)去，順便看看小寶寶。

LL: And before we go we probably should stop somewhere and get a card and present for the baby. You aren't too wiped out to do a little shopping first, are you?

LH: 說(shuō)到逛街買(mǎi)禮物，我才不會(huì)覺(jué)得累呢！特別是買(mǎi)那些可愛(ài)的小寶寶衣服。我再累也愿意去！

LL: I should have known!

LH: 好，那我現(xiàn)在給瓊斯教授打電話！

LH: Larry，你覺(jué)得baby Sarah是不是真的好可愛(ài)？

LL: She was indeed. She was a real cutie-pie!

LH: A cutie-WHAT? 你怎么說(shuō)她是個(gè)派？Pie那不是一種點(diǎn)心嗎？

LL: Well, a "cutie-pie" isn't actually a pie like the desert, but means someone who is very cute.

LH: 原來(lái)如此，cutie-pie不是指點(diǎn)心，而是指人長(zhǎng)的很可愛(ài)。小寶寶Sarah眼睛大大的，再加上圓圓的臉蛋，真可愛(ài)！She is certainly a cutie-pie!

LL: And little Sarah certainly takes after her mother. Professor Jones's wife is a cutie-pie, too!

LH: 哎，Larry，瓊斯教授的太太可是已婚婦女噢！就算你覺(jué)得她長(zhǎng)的可愛(ài)，恐怕也沒(méi)機(jī)會(huì)了。我勸你啊，還是多注意身邊是不是還有其他可愛(ài)的女孩吧！

LL: Do you have any one in mind?

LH: 說(shuō)起來(lái)，我還真有幾個(gè)長(zhǎng)的很可愛(ài)的女朋友，或許可以給你介紹一個(gè)，讓你們出去吃個(gè)飯或看電影什么的。

LL: Well, you would be a real sweetie-pie if you would give one of them a call and say nice things about me.

LH: 哎。等等，我以為你剛才教我的是cutie-pie, 怎么你現(xiàn)在又說(shuō)我是個(gè)sweetie-pie?

LL: Sweetie-pie just means you are a very nice person. "Cutie-pie" and "sweetie-pie" are both often used to describe young children.

LH: Sweetie-pie和cutie-pie往往是形容小孩。那我是不是可以叫你"oldy-pie"？因?yàn)槟憧刹荒贻p了。

LL: Sorry, Li Hua, it is just "sweetie-pie" or "cutie-pie." That's it.

LH: 我知道，跟你開(kāi)個(gè)玩笑而已，而且你也不老。Larry，你這么熱心教我英語(yǔ)，真是個(gè)sweetie-pie。

今天李華學(xué)到兩個(gè)常用語(yǔ)。一個(gè)是wiped out，是形容一個(gè)人很疲乏。另一個(gè)常用語(yǔ)是cutie-pie，是形容一個(gè)人長(zhǎng)的很可愛(ài)。Sweetie-pie則是指一個(gè)人心地善良，熱心助人。
