After years of Pride and Prejudice, climbing up to the Wuthering Heights, the classics are now seemingly and unfortunately in the Miserable World.Yes,it is true that fewer and fewer middle school students are reading classics, much to people's sorrow but with reasons live in our times.
The very first thing to blame is the television. The invention and widespread of TV has led to a generation of couch potatoes, who are tightly confined by the endless entertainment programs and the chains of tedious soap dramas. To make matters worse, the Internet then came into being, attracting more attention than ever. They together steal students' precious time, which, otherwise should be spent reading the minds of the past.
As a result, students of the day are suffering from mental starvation with their mouths filled with childish murmurs and their mind invaded by pop culture. What's more, there would be a huge loss of the good qualities presented in the classics such as the bravery and optimism of Little Ann,the integrity and nobleness of Mr.Darcy and the unyielding spirit of the old Cuban fisherman who is not made for defeat.
It's our sacred obligation to pass them down but not to ruin them for all.We may not turn back to the world without TV or computers, but we can say “no” to them and recollect our classics covered by years of dust and dirt and assimilate again the marrows inside as our spiritual food.
Never let classics Gone with the Wind!
