Weakened Uranium Causes Cancer Problem in Europe
Brussels: NATO ambassadors(1) have rejected(2) calls to ban(3) the use of antitank【反坦克的】weapons that contain(4) weakened uranium【貧鈾】, but they are expected to call for more studies into possible health threats from those weapons. Italian officials have said about 20 Italian troops who served in south-eastern Europe have developed cancer(5). Eight of them have died. The European Union has asked independent experts to study possible health risks from weakened uranium. EU officials have asked for a report within a month. The United States Defense Secretary William Cohen says there is no evidence(6) to show that weapons with uranium cause cancer.
