[01:24.14]And then I went to university.I studied Economics.

[01:34.75] I was at Tokyo University for four years.I finished my course in 1995.

[04:18.74]VERONIQUE:When I left school
[04:20.94]I spent two years training as a clerk in a pharmaceutical company.
[04:26.45]After that,my first job was as a secretary to one of the doctors.
[04:32.64]INTERVIEWER:And what were your duties?
[04:35.25]VERONIQUE:I wrote reports.
[04:37.34]Or rather my boss dictated them to me and I typed them.
[04:42.85]INTERVIEWER:Did you enjoy it?
[04:45.83]VERONIQUE:Well,I liked the people I worked with very much.
[04:50.43]I didn't like the job itself because it was boring.
[04:54.71]All I did was type!
[04:57.33]But the good thing was that I learnt a lot of English.

[05:22.77]VERONIQUE:Oh yes.I really like it because it's much more interesting.

[05:39.28]DANIELA:Well,yes.It was with a large international company.
[05:44.37]They have a trainee programme for people from university
[05:48.68]and,well,that was my first job,trainee marketing manager.
[05:54.27]INTERVIEWER:What exactly did you do?
[05:56.68]DANIELA:Well,the programme lasted eighteen months.
[06:00.39] During that time I worked in different departments--
[06:04.07]in Personnel, Purchasing,Marketing and such things.
[06:09.68]I also went out with the sales representatives to visit customers.
[06:14.28]INTERVIEWER:Did you enjoy it?
[06:15.98]DANIELA:Yes,I did.
[06:18.07]I didn't really know what I wanted to do when I left university, so
[06:22.77]it was good to see what the different departments did.
[06:26.38] It was really practical. INTERVIEWER:It sounds interesting.
[06:29.77]DANIELA:Yes,it was. But it was very badly paid.
[06:34.08]I did the same work as other people.
[06:36.98]I think a lot of the trainees feel they are a cheap source of labour.
[06:41.58]INTERVIEWER:Would you do it again?
[06:43.88]DANIELA:Sure.I learnt a lot.
[06:46.57]And found out where I really wanted to work.
