The GoPro footage of the final moments of a climbing party killed by an avalanche in the Himalayas has been released by police in India.

Australian woman Ruth McCancewas one of eight climbers killed while climbing near the base camp of Nanda Devi in late May.

澳大利亞婦女露絲·麥克思是5月底在南達(dá)維大本營(yíng)附近登山時(shí)遇難的8名登山者之一。

Ms McCance, a Sydney woman, was known as an avid climber, sailor and jazz singer.

Four Britons, two Americans and an Indian were also killed by the sudden avalanche.

Now the Indo-Tibetan Border Police has released video footage of the group climbing the mountain.

"Suddenly we noticed a loud noise. The video went blank and stopped," police spokesman Vivek Kumar Pandey told AFP.

"They were crossing a very dangerous ridge. The snow cornice must have given away because of their weight, triggering an avalanche."

The GoPro camera was found buried in snow near where seven of the climbers' bodies were found, including Ms McCance.

The camera has helped police determine what went wrong with the mission, deputy inspector general APS Nambadia said.

"The GoPro has proved to be like the black box of an aircraft giving an insight into the last few moments of the climbers," he said.

The body of Englishman Martin Moran is still missing.

Mountaineers from the police have recovered the seven bodies that were found, along with a number of their possessions.
