Xi Holds Talks with Micronesian President
Chinese President Xi Jinping on December 13 held talks with visiting President of the Federated States of Micronesia David W. Panuelo, calling for joint efforts to advance bilateral ties and provide better benefits for the two peoples.
Xi welcomed Panuelos visit to China as the two countries celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and spoke highly of Panuelos commitment to developing bilateral ties and firmly upholding the oneChina principle.
He called on both sides to complement each others advantages and further expand cooperation in such fields as trade, investment, agriculture, fisheries, infrastructure construction, and tourism under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
He also welcomed Micronesia to export more products with competitive advantages like tuna to China, to make full use of the policies and measures China has announced on cooperation with and support for island countries, and carry out more pragmatic cooperation projects that benefit peoples livelihoods.
Panuelo said the Micronesian side spoke highly of Xis proposal of building a community with a shared future for humanity, which would play an important role in promoting world peace and stability.
Micronesia, as a small country, is appreciative of the equal treatment and respect offered by China, he said, noting that China was the first country to provide support to Micronesias national independence and liberation movement as well as assistance to its national development.
He reiterated Micronesias stance on abiding by the one-China principle and maintained that Hong Kong, Xinjiang, and Tibet affairs are Chinas internal affairs.
Hailing the two countries cooperation over the past 30 years, Panuelo pledged to further expand cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, agriculture, and education, and jointly build the Belt and Road.
Xi Meets El Salvadors President
On December 3, 2019, President Xi Jinping held talks with President Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez of El Salvador at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past year since the establishment of diplomatic relations, both sides have enjoyed increasingly close exchanges in various areas, continuously expanded economic and trade cooperation, and intensified mutual understanding.
During the dialogue, Xi Jinping also stressed that both sides need to enhance cooperation in areas including infrastructure, agriculture, quality supervision, energy, water conservancy, and science and technology, as well as create highlights in the improvement of peoples livelihood of both countries. China stands ready to import more high-quality products such as sugar and coffee from the El Salvadoran side. The two sides should conduct exchanges between governments, legislatures, political parties, localities, business circles, young people, think-tanks, and media.
Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez said that the people of El Salvador pay close attention to and placed high hopes on his visit to China. He believes that developing relations with China, a great country and sincere friend, will bring opportunities for El Salvadors development and tangible benefits for his people. The El Salvadoran side appreciates Chinas assistance to its economic development and looks forward to enhancing cooperation with China in areas including investment, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, culture, science and technology, and jointly build the Belt and Road.
Wang Qishan Addresses the 2019 Imperial Springs International Forum
On December 1, 2019, Vice President Wang Qishan attended and addressed the opening ceremony of the 2019 Imperial Springs International Forum in Guangzhou.
Wang Qishan noted in his address that China practices and champions as well as benefits from multilateralism. China is taking the initiative to open up its market, advocate jointly building the Belt and Road and shares its development opportunities with the rest of the world. China does not have the slightest interest in hegemonism or expansionism. Instead, guided by the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits in global governance, China promotes democracy in international relations.
During his address, Wang Qishan also stressed that China advocates building a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for humanity, an ideology which is rooted in traditional Chinese culture.
Taking “Multilateralism and Sustainable Development” as the theme, the 2019 Imperial Springs International Forum attracted more than 260 attendees.
