該習(xí)語(yǔ)的字面意思是“在熱水中”??梢韵胂竺枋鰧?duì)象身處的環(huán)境一定很惡劣,肯定是遇到了麻煩,所以后來(lái)該習(xí)語(yǔ)就被用來(lái)表示“遇到了麻煩”之意。例如:I am in the hot water now, I lose some important documents.我遇到麻煩了,我弄丟了很多十分重要的文件。

It's history.都已經(jīng)過(guò)去了。
和別人造成誤會(huì)時(shí)我們肯定要解釋一下,對(duì)方可能說(shuō)“都已經(jīng)過(guò)去了”,言下之意是他已經(jīng)原諒你了。說(shuō)成Everything has passed.的話就好鬧笑話了,這樣的中式英語(yǔ)老外當(dāng)然聽(tīng)不懂了,正確的說(shuō)法應(yīng)該是It's history.
History是“歷史”的意思,成為了歷史當(dāng)然就是過(guò)去的事了,也就不用提了。我們?cè)谔岬侥硞€(gè)人的“生平”時(shí),可以說(shuō)life history。

這條習(xí)語(yǔ)來(lái)自17世紀(jì)的英國(guó)。當(dāng)時(shí)中國(guó)生產(chǎn)的茶葉在英國(guó)價(jià)格昂貴,如果是“中國(guó)的全部茶葉”(all the tea in China),價(jià)值就無(wú)法估量了。不過(guò),這條習(xí)語(yǔ)多用于否定句,意思是“即使把中國(guó)的全部茶葉送給我(我也不做某事)”,比喻“無(wú)論如何,無(wú)論多高的報(bào)酬(也不)”的意思。比如:That man was so rude to me!
